A gluttonous rat reaps the rewards from the cyclical behaviour of hungry little mice.

Cheddar serves as an allegory for exploitation, illustrating how the powerful benefit from the labor of the less influential. Inspired by Tonko House's short film "The Dam Keeper," my graduate film is deeply influenced by its painterly style. With Cheddar, I aimed to replicate this unique aesthetic in 3D softwares, something I hadn't seen before. Through extensive pre-production and planning, I utilized Maya for rigging and animation, while Blender, supported by a painterly filter by Alan Wyatt, brought the vision to life during the rendering phase.

Consistently throughout the project, emphasizing perspective and scale was very important to me. My intention was to make objects that appear small to humans seem colossal and intimidating to the rodent characters inhabiting this world. The stacks of cardboard boxes evoke the feeling of towering and invasive skyscrapers in our own concrete jungles, while the rat trap assumes the scale of an industrial-sized machine on a bustling building site.

Cheddar has been a passion project of mine for quite some time now. However, the project's scope proved to be too ambitious for just one person. Despite not being able to finish the short film during my last year of college, I've been actively seeking funding opportunities and look forward to revisiting it again in the future.
